I have been a member of this list for some years now.. It is clear to me that there are differences in the way obstetricians and CNM’s deal with some issues e.g., the issue of home deliveries is one that will never be resolved – at least in my country or in USA because of the legal system… CNM’s cannot do emergency C/S and I do not really know other things they cannot do or can do... but it is clear that the obstetrician is the one who bears the brunt when the s —hits the fan.. It puzzles me why some CNM’s cannot grasp that basic concept and be sympathetic to our concerns – similarly – it is also clear in my mind that we have involuntary blinkers because of that primal fear of litigation. I love my profession and I would like to practice it with the same state of mind when I drive my car. Yes, there are rules, stop signs – slippery roads, some concerns … and accidents – even driving in a responsible way – still I don’t wear blinkers -in fact that would impair me of doing a good job at driving! – I try my best to throw away those gadgets when caring for my patients – but I must admit that it is a difficult thing to do…

If a CMN’s wants to do home deliveries she must have special clause in her insurance that would cover the obstetrician’s “trasero”.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
