An excellent book which discusses the development of the modern Japanese midwife and the difficulties these women encountered after emigration to the U.S., I recommend "Japanese American Midwives: Culture, Community, and Health Politics, 1880-1950." http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-American-Midwives-Community-Experience/dp/0252072472/sr=8-1/qid=1164730828/ref=sr_1_1/002-0271905-4790403?ie=UTF8&s=books

A new book by Laura Ettinger is called "Nurse-Midwifery: The Birth of a New American Profession." It does a great job of describing the social and political forces which influenced midwifery in this country during the 20th century, with some fascinating historical background before 1900 and extremely revealing comparisons between the U.S. and Europe. This book is both scholarly and readable.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
