Re: ACOG StatmentFrom: Louana George, RN, LM, CPM, MA (westsidebirthservice@juno.com)Tue Nov 28 07:45:14 2006
I wonder too about the timing and the reason for the ACOG statement--my understanding is that the percentage of home births has not changed very much since the early 1980's--about 1%. One way to read it, and some if seems like this to me, the ACOG statement reads as if that small percentage is a threat to-- financial gain?--power and prestige?--territory? In Japan the OB's are not so high on the list of powerful practitoners--so there isn't this type of antipathy toward the midwives who do most of the births in that country. Louana

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
