<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> Yes, that's the Finnish one, where STAN "did not improve the neonatal outcome or decrease the ceasarean section rate".

The new Swedish study, claiming "consistent improvements in fetal outcome":

Noren H, Blad S, Carlsson A et al. STAN in clinical practise - The outcome of 2 years of regular use in the city of Gothenburg. Am J Obstet Gynecol 2006;195:7-15.

The latest study (the one Bernard mentions) from the US, I'm not sure if it really claims to show anything.

here's one study showing little difference in outcome:

STAN (ST-ANalysis, where ST is the the traditional EKG curve between
the points S and T) is mainly a Swedish invention. I know some of the
persons with an economic interest in the procedure. There are now two
heavy studies, one Finnish (early 2006) showing no benefits in
comparison with traditional CTG, and one Swedish (later 2006) showing
a slight but significant decrease in neonatal asphyxia without a
significant rise of the cesarean rate. Lately, some case reports have
drawn attention, also in mainstream Swedish media, to a suspicion that
the expected higher safety with STAN compared to traditional CTG has
been causing obstetricians to postpone an otherwise obvious emergency
cesarean section.

So, the STAN approach is currently in limbo.

Does anybody use the STAN for perpartum fetal EKG analysis?
What do you think of it and of its easiness?
