Re: ACOG Statment

Cheri,

I could not agree more. The ACNM statement makes some excellent points, points I would have hoped that ACOG would take into consideration. It is sad that the general concensous on this blog is "please, go away" or "we do not want to hear from mid-level providers." The women who choose homebirth are not going to go away, which means that they are going to continue to need qualified practitioners at home, and in the hospital if they transfer. Home birthing mothers cannot afford for any of us to go away.

Women's health is a field that is constantly championing the choice of the woman. It seems hypocritical that so many negate the reality of women's choices for OOH birth... to the point of refusing the back them up or not discussing their possible needs and or ways to streamline care for them if/ when they transfer.

Regarding the lack of response to a body recognized by ACOG.... the silence is deafening. Would any one care to discuss the recommendations put forth by the ACNM?

I believe I hear an echo. This is the exact message which I sent to this group on 11/25. I thought it was interesting at the time that there was no response to the ACNM position from any of the list members. It saddens me that so many seem to prefer flippant repartee to reasoned discourse.

Like many others, I believe this is an important subject worthy of discussion on this list, in other professional forums, in the lay press, and on the floors of legislatures. Because it is so important I would much prefer to see a calm and thoughtful approach.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
