Re: ACOG statementFrom: Stmidwife@aol.comWed Nov 15 08:56:44 2006
Yes, this is correct, this is the ACOG standard of care, not the midwifery standard of care. Midwifery studies are used in the midwifery standard of care in a legal setting. Looks like more OOH would be an asset in the US. Also, there are many OB's that practice OOH in birth centers and Homefirst has its practice a 7 physicians Homebirth practice along with many single practices. I am also sure that many of the physicians who have homebirths or birth center births will continue to provide backup finding the opinion insulting. There are worldwide studies WHO showing safety for OOH birth, in Europe they recommend it according to a study a few months back. While frustrating here, it is reassuring to know that this is not a worldwide opinion, just ACOG's. Sue In a message dated 11/15/2006 12:36:42 A.M. I believe the responsibility for compliance with standards as a result of proven, well-documented studies is that of the midwifery profession and not the responsibility of ACOG to point it out to anyone. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
