Re: IMPLANONFrom: Ricardo Francalacci Savaris (rsavaris@hcpa.ufrgs.br)Wed Nov 1 14:02:28 2006
Yes, I was one of those who trained the doctors to put the device. It is very easy to introduce the implant, and even easier to remove it, when compared to Norplant. The main problems with Implanon is the abnormal uterine bleeding, typical side effect from this type of progesterone only contraceptive. One good way to start, and they did not tell us, it to use Cerazzete (desogestrel - 75mcg) prior IMPLANON in order to verify if the patient adapts with the medication (weight gain, bleeding pattern, etc.) If she is fat, bleeding is very likely to occur, and it is a pain in the neck to control it. I have used estrogen, and NSAD. Hope it helps

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
