LEGAL: Interesting angle on lawsuitsFrom: DoctorJoe@aol.comMon Oct 16 17:24:34 2006
Column: Too Many Lawsuits? Blame Clients Columnist writes, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce continues to push its message blaming trial lawyers for filing too many lawsuits, which supposedly wrecks a competitive business climate. However, a survey of 422 in-house corporate legal departments shows more than two-thirds of these companies filed lawsuits in the past year. Research shows that U.S. companies with more than $1 billion in revenue are involved in 50 new lawsuits a year, with an average caseload of 556 pending actions and an average cost of $12 million a year on litigation, which does not include settlements. Columnist writes that most of this type of litigation deals with enforcing contracts, protecting trademarks, dealing with illegal behavior of competitors "or simply to bury someone in legal papers." One attorney notes, "Corporate America loves suing but hates being sued." Al Lewis, Denver Post 10/12/2006 Read Article: Denver Post Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
