Re: Surgical decisionFrom: Richard Chudaoff (rchudacoff@mylinuxisp.com)Mon Oct 16 14:52:44 2006
Actually, Dan, my patients return to work or normal activities of daily living at a minimum of one, if not three weeks sooner than a simple vaginal hysterectomy. They also return to sexual relations 5-6 weeks sooner. I love doing vaginal hysterectomies, but my patients so much prefer LSHs. Now, I will agree, that 95% if all gynecologist can barely do a credible TAH, much less any other more involved surgery. Uh oh, let the flames begin. Do it Vaginally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only indication for a laparoscopic hyst is if the surgeon can't do it vaginally. 95% of the time, that is because the surgeon doesn't know how to do it that way or is too lazy to work that hard. Can't recall the last hyst I did through and abdominal incision, all go laparoscopically, occasionally vaginally. This applies especially to ovaries as they are really easy to remove (usually). The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
