..

There was an Op-Ed piece in the New York Times in May of 1986 (maybe 1985) that pointed out that in the Catholic church, abortion was acceptable in the middle ages. Males could be aborted up to about 13 weeks and females up until about 20 weeks (quickening) although the article pointed out that there was no way to determine whether a fetus was a male or female. This information might also have been mentioned in Roe v. Wade, although I am not sure of that.

Is there anywhere in the Christian bible where abortion is proscribed?

I believe it was Aristotle who held that the Male Fetus became ensouled at 90 days and the female fetus at 150 days. This was also the stance of the Roman Catholic Church up until around 1850. So they felt that it was a much lesser sin to abort a pregnancy prior to ensoulment. Also interesting and indicative of the Gender bias both currently and previously predominant there.

BTW, remember you were the one who said we needed to be "JUDGEMENTAL"

Look at all the laws we have that literally "legislate Morality". Everything from incest to drinking and driving, child abuse, murder, pornography, etc

We simply have chosen as a society and as a College (ACOG) to turn our backs on the silent voices and cries of the 1.6 million babies murdered each year in the United States. agf

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
