Our practice has long included assisting birth in the Old Order Amish community that is very near us. I just spoke to my partner, Pamela Hunt, who attended 4 births for an Amish woman (her 6th through 10th), whose cervix resided outside of vagina except when she was in labor. I remember examining her myself. Her cervix was dry and calloused. We tried to keep her off her feet during pregnancy. Labors tended to be short and efficient, ranging from 6 hours to 5 minutes (we didn't make to that one, not surprisingly, but all was well).

I'm trying to find out if any of my partners has seen her since her baby-having days. I haven't.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
