I would submit that most of us either have lawyers hired by our insurer (or employer, if we work for a hospital or health care system). If we can choose our own lawyer, how do we know which one is best?

Exactly the problem. You're stuck with someone paid by the "company," and their loyalty is, at best, divided.

Choosing a good lawyer is difficult -- in each area, I guess word'o'mouth and other such networking processes are the best way.

You need a good DEFENSE lawyer who's good at MEDICAL cases. It might be prudent to get a lawyer from a "big defense firm", just like your hospital might do. But a different firm than them.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
