Hemoglobin electrophoresis vs solubility

In the past I have ordered hemoglobin electrophoresis as a prenatal lab for patients of African and Mediterranean ethnic groups during the first pregnancy. At my new location I find that hemoglobin solubility seems to be the preferred test.

What are others doing?
