What's the COST of the procedure when: 1) You start a laparoscopic procedure and then CONVERT to open versus 2) You start an open procedure and STAY an open procedure versus 3) You start a laparoscopic procedure and STAY a laparoscopic procedure verus 4) You do a COMBINED procedure (e.g. LAVH) as planned (remembering a combined procedure is different from a completely laparoscopic procedure. I presume the physician's billing is similar (I could be wrong) but the OR charges may be vastly different, depending on opening trays, scope sets, etc., etc. Anyone got a line on this kind of stuff? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
