Re: prior lumbar discectomyFrom: ainsron (ainsron@sbcglobal.net)Thu Aug 10 08:50:58 2006
I would also ask her to get a recommendation/opinion from her neurosurgeon. My gut level feeling is the same as yours. However, I do know that when my own sciatica is acting up, straining to have a BM, coughing, etc. certainly lets me know that a nerve is irritated. There is no reason I know of she couldn't have an epidural in labor, that would probably give her good pain relief and isn't contraindicated. Ronald E. Uncomplicated first pregnancy, vaginal delivery. Had to have L3-L4 microdiscectomy at 8 weeks PP. At her first visit today, she asked about a primary C/S to avoid pushing and that causing more back problems. I'll do a medline when I have time (watching the Hungarian GP on TiVo), but does anyone have any thoughts? My instinct is to allow and recommend a vaginal delivery. Garry

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
