Re: Imperforate / Cribiform hymenFrom: Raymond Stephen (stephen.raymond@dhhs.tas.gov.au)Mon Aug 7 00:00:14 2006
Having done several of these in the last five years I can say that all I have ever done is incise and dilate to two fingers - no suturing and no excision. I think this should produce less scarring and therefore less dyspareunia. Steve -----Original Message----- From: ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net [mailto:ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net] On Behalf Of Joanne Bulley, MD Sent: Tuesday, 1 August 2006 11:26 PM To: Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L Subject: Imperforate / Cribiform hymen We each see this only rarely - so I thought I would see what you are doing now (as opposed to years ago) 15 yo - first menses last week, tried to use a tampon, no opening found. Mom is a nurse and daughter asked for help. Mom noted the absence of vaginal opening. Swa PCP then saw me. Menarche age appropriate to the onset of thelarche and adrenarche. NO history to suggest obstructed menstruation prior to this. Exam - no visible opening, but she did have menses and used pads. The "old" techique of hymenectomy was cruciate incisions - at 2/4/8/10 and excise the triangles of hymen created by that and suture with very fine suture (eg vicryl) What has anybody done in the last 5 years?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
