Bartholin's gland excision

I recently had to excise a recurrent Bartholin's gland, which was approximately 2-3 cm, painful, but not infected (no pus, subsequent culture report negative). She underwent Word catheter marsupialization 2 months prior which failed to resolve the issue. The procedure went as expected, including the rupture of the cyst half way through the procedure, which always makes the final extraction a bit more difficult (less clarity of the tissue planes), but nothing unusual.

Post-op the pt complained of numbness of portion of posterior vulva, buttock, and occasional sharp pains. The exam at 1 week and 2 weeks post-op did not reveal any problems with healing - no induration, no swelling, incision intact. Even at 6 weeks (although continuing to improve) she has variable soreness, areas of lack of sensation, and episodic sharp pains. Also reports short lasting unilateral swelling of that side of the perineum, that appears suddenly with pain, and resolves within a day.

I was curious to the listers' experience with B. gland excision as these are not so common, and I can't recall other patients having such difficulties.
