Re: staples at C/SFrom: johnprov@sympatico.comTue Aug 1 16:35:27 2006
Staples Vs. sub Q.; makes no difference cosmetically , I have seen ugly keliods with both at about equal frequency. Staples faster?; not if you do subQ all the time. SubQ cheaper last time I checked 10 years ago subQ was much cheaper. Nasty wound infections are more easily handled with staples Vs. subQ suturing with the exception of subQ prolene which acts about the same as staples because they both are removed about same time. When a patient asks me which is better I tell them there is no sig. difference, but if they get a serious wound infection they will curse the day they asked for subQ sutures. Draining an abcess is a bedside procedure with staples it may require a G.A. with a subQ suture and a sensitive patient. Remember non elective c-sections are the ones most likely to get a serious wound infection.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
