I don't choose either, the woman does and many women are refusing syntometrine or syntocinon for the 3rd stage. This is why it is important that we are competent in both active and physiological 3rd stage. My point was that you can't mix and match. You either do one or the other otherwise, as the Bristol 3rd stage trial showed, you're asking for trouble We`also need to reclassify what constitutes a PPH. A woman with a good Hb and MCV who loses 600mls and does not become symptomatic can be better off than woman with a low HB who loses 300mls and does become symptomatic. Who has had the PPH? I've heard that in some countries a PPH is defined as a blood loss of >1000mls. Gail

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
