Our rural, less than 100 bed hospital with 7 beds in OB dept only have CRNAs. The surgeons are supposed to take the vicarious liability for them as supervisors. They all do epidurals and have done them for years. There were 2 of them until last year when they added a 3rd. They are thinking of hiring a 4th because we are getting busier and we have a great new ortho whose has upped the number of OR cases they have. So the CRNAs cover the OR and OB. They are great guys, but we have them 'we will die, sink or swim together' philosophy. I have done recovery for them and they have hung around OB if we think we will have a bad baby. That is one of the advantages of a small place, Vicki Smith, CNM, MSN West Virginia Midwives- changing the world one baby at a time.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
