Re: HPV Vaccine

I plan to discuss it with my daughters, ages 10 and 7, and encourage them to get it.

Even if they never have sex, there's always rape.

(Which was my rationale for vaccinating them for hep B)

Can you imagine needing colpos and LEEPs as a result of a rape?

Of course, there is also the joy of being a modern parent - explaining the concept of rape to a 10 year old.

Does anyone know whether it's been studied in the prevention of peri-anal HPV? Seems to me that there would be a direct benefit to men as well. (As noted above, even if you never engage in anal sex, there's always rape.)

I agree that we might start offering it to older unexposed patients, although with the caveat that the postadolescent cervix appears to have some disease resistance and so it may not be as beneficial.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
