Plus, I am off work and have had some acrylic nails put on and they're a bugger to type with :-o We don't have consent forms for a vaginal birth. We must have consent for doing anything else like v/e's, syntometrine, putting up syntocinon etc etc. I don't understand why you have to have consent for a normal vaginal birth. C/section, ventouse and forceps, yes, but not vaginal birth. Only c/s demands written consent everything else is verbal. I'm sure that will change eventually. I am in the doghouse with one of the community midwives (CM) because I didn't give a woman syntometrine for the 3rd stage. The woman came in contracting 4-5:10 and there was no way she could give informed consent. If I had given syntometrine to her I would have been guilty of assault under those conditions. If the CM had bothered to talk to the woman during her pregnancy she could have written it in her birth plan but no, the CM didn't even bother so I complained to the CM Manager who in turn told them they'd have to do a birth plan visit at 36 weeks! That went down like a lead zeppelin. I'm going to send her the Department of Health's 12 key steps to consent!
