Re: Vertex to Breech in laborFrom: claire (clairec1979@hotmail.com)Mon Jun 5 11:18:43 2006
Can type of breech alter in labour as well? May sound stupid. Primip came in contracting at 38 weeks(no antenatal care since 18/19weeks - she'd moved and no one could find her) on admission, palpated as cephalic, VE 8cm what felt like a head well applied to cervix, no cord or limbs felt - no landmarks either, no sign of meconium at that stage. 30 minutes later presenting part advancing, hmm looks strange - it's foot, now fully and mec (obviously) as baby descended. (Reg came in and she had vaginal delivery, baby's left foot presenting, right leg frank) Anyway question is at 8cm I had previously imagined a footling breech would easily be diagnosed as a footling (please correct me if that assumption is wrong - or that you would feel something - possibly confusing it with a nuchal hand) - is it more likely that baby moved foot so ended up as a footling rather than a complete breech? - which is what I imagined had happened, and the breech missed at 8cm - or, after reading this thread, that it was cephalic at 8cm and breech at birth Thanks Claire (BSc Midwifery student_

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
