Informed consent

Having a running battle at work about informed consent. I don't think when a woman is in labour is the time to be getting consent unless an emergency arises. I think it should be discussed in the antenatal period.

With separate midwives working on the labour ward and in the community there is a fight brewing. I think it's their job to discuss labour plans at 36 weeks or as and when the subject arises.

Joe P, what is the legal definition of informed consent?

What happens over there?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
