I agree with this, but our current system can leave patients-and ultimately care providers and facilities-holding the bill for that. Once the insurance company has paid as much as they are willing to pay, the patient is billed for the balance. And turned over to collections if unable to pay, with adverse events reported to credit bureaus. If the debt is never collected, the hospital eats the cost of nursing care and supplies for the additional time. Do you think that's a factor in some doctors' going along with the insurance companies?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
