My understanding of the NY case is that Dr. Zarkin's defense team stated that he has Pick's disease, a progressive frontal lobe disorder, and that this also accounted for his "erratic behavior" in the weeks prior to the initials incident. Since, to my knowledge, the defense team has not released the neurologists evaluations, we cannot say whether a criminal prosecution is appropriate. However, it's certainly appropriate that he lose his medical license, since he either committed intentional assault or suffers from an unrelenting neurologic disease, both which preclude him from practicing medicine.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
