Yes, primarily. There is a precedent of LMs having hospital privileges at a hospital in Seattle (these privileges were lost when the hospital was acquired by a bigger conglomerate, however). An LM in my small community has applied for privileges at the local hospital. It is being considered. I hear through the rumor mill that Group Health (a large HMO) is considering adding LMs to their staff.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
