Patient responsiblility--the followupFrom: Anna Meenan, MD (annam@uic.edu)Wed Feb 15 22:03:52 2006
You recall my post last month about mentally ill pt from another state? So, here's the followup: She saw my former partner at the residency practice but no-showed for most of her antenatal testing. I heard she was telling everyone at that office that I made her stop her psych meds. New doc scheduled her for induction this past Monday at 38 4/7 weeks due to IUGR. She presented to ER in active labor 2 hours before her scheduled induction and proceeded to deliver within 2 hours. 4.5 lb baby with mec but baby did well and went home with adoptive parents. I precepted the resident who delivered her in outpatient clinic today and he filled me in on the details, then spent 20 minutes on the phone because the pharmacist phoned to say that Public Aid(she did apparently finally apply for Public Aid in this state) would not cover the psych med she claimed was the only one that would work for her. Out-of pocket cost at that pharmacy was going to be $375 for a 30-day-supply. He ended up calling Wal-mart and getting a price of $120, which she finally agreed to pay out of pocket, with help from adoptive parents. She did not get her tubal in hospital due to OR scheduling problems, but agreed to hang around for a week to see my ex-partner in followup before going back to her home state, though she refuses any followup for her CIN2-3 paps and colpos that were done before she came here. I'm just glad everything went well and she will be back on her meds now.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
