The thing is: in France 40% of Ob-Gyns are paid at the price of the "Securite Sociale" (healthcare), we call them sector1. This means 25 euros for a visit and around 300 for a delivery. Sector2s have the right to charge what they want. Malpractice premiums are nowadays at 10 to 20,000 euros a year according to what the doctor does (surgery or not, ultrasound, ART ...). A recent judgment of the Cour de Cassation (french supreme court) is able to raise dramatically the financial risk for the insurers. One of the main insurer said the malpractice premiums should go up to 40,000 a year and it's impossible for those 40% of Sector 1 to pay that, so they decide to quit. Bernard Efrain Ramirez wrote:

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
