Goodbye Dr. KleinFrom: Barbara Nicol MD (blnicol@ix.netcom.com)Wed Nov 30 10:15:44 2005
Well, I disagree. Just ignoring other professionals isn't the way to resolve this debate, and the safety and validity of nonstandard approaches to childbirth, such as elective CS and homebirth, are absolutely valid topics of discussion on an obstetrics forum. Looking back and doing a quick count of posts, I think you'd have to say that MDs and non-MDs are both responsible for individually focused replies and "agree" type posts, which I think constitute the "chaff" described in the guidelines (remember the guidelines?) There have also been many posts with useful additional clarifications that should be interesting to many participants. This forum claims to be a forum for medical professionals, not just MDs. I value the opinions and expertise of the midwives and nurses who do post here partly because they are outside of the MD box, and I frequently find them to be at least as respectful and considerate of fellow listmembers as the MDs, if not more so. One of my professors used to observe regularly that the strength and passion of people's opinions on a medical subject is often inversely related to the amount of actual evidence on the subject. That observation comes to mind frequently in my practice of ob/gyn.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
