Re: 48 hour stayFrom: Elrod Darryl G MAJ 48 MDOS/SGOBO (Darryl.elrod@LAKENHEATH.AF.MIL)Tue Nov 29 02:40:28 2005
Just like with any other choice made by moms, dads, or whomever, if they want to go home earlier then they would sign an 'Against Medical Advise" form acknowledging that we have recommended they stay and they want to go. Unlike probably everyone else on this list, to some degree I can make people stay. I've only ever done it once, but with an active duty member they can not leave against my advice. I say they stay...they stay. Period. I'm not saying this is the best way to get patients to go along with the plan, but it can be used if necessary. Why don't you test for GBS? I'm about to have to go down this road with our Portugese referral hospital. I've pulled a bunch of review articles on GBS, but have yet to cull them to get the numbers of preventable GBS illnesses with universal GBS screening and treatment. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
