So when was there any compelling evidence that you need an U/S to have a baby? If one is very certain of dates and everything preceeds normally, they are not necessary (only had one with my second kid, and only because fundal height was lagging more than 4 cm---U/S showed a perfectly normal baby who weighed 7lb 3 oz at birth, instead of 10 lb like his older brother).

Women are pretty much required to have the recommended blood tests in this country, and most do, though I don't know how things stand in the homebirth community these days with regard to blood tests.
