The National Center for Health Statistics in Atlanta reports that the US Caesarean Section rate for 2004 has hit an all-time high: 29.1% of all births. The increase is attributed to "fears of lawsuits if vaginal delivery goes wrong [say it ain't so!], the preferences of mothers and physicians, and the risks of attempting vaginal births after Caesareans." The C/S rate increased for all births, even those that involved healthy pregnancies and a full-term, single baby. Watch out Brazil, here we come! Gerald P. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
