Re: OB: Home birthsFrom: Garry E. Siegel, M.D. (garrys@mindspring.com)Tue Nov 15 21:09:33 2005
Realistically, if one of the home birth patients presented to our hosptial and said they belonged to our practice, then we're going to take care of them. Whether they call us beforehand, or just show up, whether we've told them we're not involved, or had zero knowledge of their homebirth, well, we're on the hook. If we said "NO" and let the Ob on the ER call list take care (and it could be us!), then the other Ob would rightfully say--it's your practice's patient and your problem. Thanks for your wisdom. More than likely, we're going to have an introductory letter that says "no home births" in the text. If anyone balks or wishes to discuss/bargain--no problem, please seek care elsewhere. Our CNMs agree fully. Garry

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
