AmnioinfusionDo you have a policy and procedure manual on L&D @ your hospital? We do, and it outlines specific guidelines for this (and various other) procedure (with us, its 600 cc bolus over the first hour - via pump - then 160 cc/hr). In our hospital, this would clear up any confusion quickly. If you have no such manual, it would be advisable to start one, which may even save your (or one of your colleagues') tuchas in court one day.

If, of course, you have such a manual, and it specifies the procedure the way you describe, and the nurse *still* won't allow it, I'd go to the director of nursing of the hospital ASAP, and let that person deal with your ill-informed new nurse. On the other hand, the procedure is described some other way, you, as they say in New York, are SOL. Review the manual, and submit revisions to your chair or medical director of L&D.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
