..

The figure I give people for favorable outcome from PROM is 15 - 20%, which has generally been my experience. I know a female OB/GYN once who ruptured membranes before 20 weeks in her first pregnancy, was in the hospital a day or two, then went home. I think she even went back to work part-time. She had a good outcome with the pregnancy. In her next pregnancy, same thing happened again. Another good outcome. She decided not to try a third pregnancy.

It hardly ever occurs, but sometimes survival without PTL or chorioamnionitis
occurs and holds till survivablility of the fetus....I took a call Friday from
a patient who ruptured that early two plus years ago...she enjoys her toddler!
Patient needs a realistic appraisal and counseling but I personally would
support conservative expectant management if that were her choice. Hank

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
