..

One additional point is that if the resident is a chief or thrid year, he/she might be gone before the case goes to court.

We discontinued Rape exams by OB/GYN residents in 1990 and turned it over to the ED Physicians. After all, rape exams are usually trauma and forsensics, not truly OB?GYN. We consult only for morning after questions or true gyn issues such as laceration repair. We have never been questioned about this by the Residency Review Committee.

I would like to know how many of your hospitals have the OB/Gyn staff do rape exams? If you don't do them, who does? ER doc, nurse, specially trained team? I'm only interested in the evidence collection, not a consult that results from trauma to gyn organs.

Thanks,

Glen

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
