Naw, you're not a dummy. Just a gynecologist. (just kidding Joanne) BT is a highly variable and very subjective test. There isn't a perfect test for VW. Different labs use different combinations, but the most common are a VW antigen, VW Ristocetin cofactor assay, and FVIII:C activity. There are also different methodologies and sensitivity/specificity numbers. Call your reference lab and ask what's in their VW test panel. At the clinic I used to work at, the lab lady had the catalog from the reference lab there and I could just look up the panels and individual tests and there was a paragraph describing the test and what it was for and how to interpret results. That always helped. Now I guess I'll just have to call the hospital pathologist with these questions if they arise in the outreach clinic. The hazards of being almost-but-not-quite-fully-retired.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
