So looting, muggings, and assault are OK, as long as you leave the tourists alone?

Here's the thing, El: This world is a wonderful place and it is a crappy place, and it is full of good people and crappy people, in every country. We are all well aware of this, and in general we try to do what we can for folks we have the capability to do something for. We all fully understand and acknowledge that some of us are more "privileged" than others. (For instance, some of us have four computers, an X-Box, a bluetooth-enabled cellphone, and a shiny new truck in the driveway--who, I wonder?) Thanks to modern technology and the internet, we have good friends all over the world, even in Namibia, and when disaster strikes a friend, it is human nature (for most of us, anyway) to express concern, and no matter how privileged the "privileged victim" is, if it is a good friend, we want to reach out and offer any help we can. If a natural disaster hit Namibia, we would probaly do the same for you and your family (or maybe we wouldn't now, knowing how you feel about such "rubbish") As I said, it's human nature. Joe is a good friend, and even though there are thousands of people worse off than he (a fact which he has already acknowledged), he is a friend, and friends show concern and want to help. It's basic common courtesy and human nature, nothing more, and calling it rubbish is just basic rudeness. I thought we were all better friends than that.

I am outa this discussion. Good night.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
