Re: OB: Hypertension**twhat happenedFrom: Joanne Bulley, MD (islesannie@yahoo.com)Wed Jul 20 20:08:26 2005
Good choice to my thinking. Sounds a lot like my (then) sister in law (when I was in med school). She was probably early 30's - a tiny woman (4'10 3/4") who had had one C/S for CPD. No HTN in first preg. Second preg (same dad) she was scheduled for C/S at 38 weeks (or so). They kept taking her BP over and over at visits in different positions. She swelled up like a balloon. They (get this) postponed her C/S by one week because a third tirmester US "gave a later due date". On the Monday between the Friday of the original C/S date and the Firday of the new C/S date ... she called her husband saying she felt not right and he needed to take her to the hospital. Stat C/S and as she came out of general anesthesia she seized and was in a coma for a week or 10 days. Then as a resident I was taught that with eclampsia it is not unusual for the woman to have some sort of "aura" before seizing. And the baby? And the post C/S BP? C'mon Garry - give us the rest! Then you can enjoy your vacation! Joanne

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
