Dr. Sawas

I think you need to determine a cause for her hirsutism. It may be familial if she is of mediterranean descent. On the other hand she may have a androgen producing tumor other adrenals or ovaries. Check testosterone level, androstenedione, DHEA-S and 17 OH Progesterone level (r/o adult onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia). If these levels are reasonable it may be all related to PCO adn treat with BCPs to suppress ovarian function. If DHEA-S is singificantly high it would suggest adrenal tumor and need cat scan and probalby selectiv catheterization by radiology of renal veins to see where the andreogens are coming from. The ovarian cyst is probably nothing ot be ocnerned with and may be rechecked with US in 3 t 6 months. Keep us posted. Andrew

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
