Re: Left-handed learnersFrom: Charlie Chambers (cchamber@gorge.net)Tue May 31 23:48:08 2005
I'm a left as were all 3 of my companions during my residency year in Utah. 2 of them learned to do everything right handed. Myself and another were stubborn enough to stick with left handedness. I don't believe you train them any differently. Just realize that all the instruments tend to be inherently more difficult to use for a lefty, and be patient. The culmination of this misunderstanding occurred in my chief year when I was scrubbed with the chairman for a c/s. He decided to give me a hard time because I wasn't "palming" the needle driver after 4 years of training. I informed him that it wasn't possible. He replied that was nonsense, took the needle driver, and then attempted unsuccessfully to show me how it is possible. I felt vindicated. ************************************************************************ **** Charlie Chambers -- Hood River, OR USA cchamber@alumni.rice.edu

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
