Nope...35 days of continuous hormone uptake. My patients tend to put it in on the first of the month, and take it out on the 25th (if they want a cycle) or replace it each month on the first, if they do not want a cycle. Or they have the option of determining how many cycles they want. Might as well benefit from the two extra weeks of coverage

Why? Are you sure you can wear it for four weeks consecutively and still be effective? The normal sequence is just like OCPs, 3wks on/1wk off.

One thought though. If you use a conventional pack of pills, you need 18 packs a year for continuous amenorrhea. With NuvaRing, you only need 12. If a patient is paying the difference, it can be quite a lot of cash.

Great - this is what I usually do -- tell them to gradually lenghthen the cycle. Must be that Great Minds Think Alike.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
