Re: New Blood Test May Help Detect Ovarian CancerFrom: Joanne Bulley, MD (islesannie@yahoo.com)Wed May 11 20:46:06 2005
the Gyn oncologist I heard at a course here at ACOG yesterday ... I will have to look up her name - siad that proteomics are NOT ready for use ... It was Advances in Ovarian Cancer Detection and Treatment - by Dr Beth Young Karlan form UCLA Cedars Sinai. Med Center. She indicated that the SELDI-TOF protein patterns in serum results were NOT reproducible and likely due to aritfact of how the samples were handled and / or porcessed and not from the underlying cancer. The false negative value for stage one disease is about 50% She was putting her bets for markers on comparative genomics and that there would be a test before the end of the next 5 9or maybe 10) years. But the patients will here this on the news - and be certain that we docs are in cahoots against them for not letting this test out ... Joanne

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
