Not all the moms I deliver want the baby on their chest to nurse right away, but in general, they do want to hold the baby and get to know it, after their bottom end is stitched up, cleaned up, and covered up, and we have put the labor bed back together. I would be very concerned about a mom who took one look at the baby and ordered it sent to the nursery. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit.
