That's been the case for 3 1/2 years and I've not seen anything to resurrect it. Per ACOG committee opinion #258, 9/01: "The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Committee on Obstetric Practice currently cannot endorse the adoption of this device in clinical practice. The committee is particularly concerned that the introduction of this technology to clinical practice could further escalate the cost of medical care without necessarily improving clinical outcome. The committee recommends that prospective randomized clinical trials be conducted to evaluate the clinical use of this new technology in conjunction with fetal well-being assessment. Given that this technology is new, attention should be paid to any adverse outcomes, including falsely reassuring fetal pulse oximetry data. Moreover, such untoward events should be reported to FDA MedWatch, the FDA Medical Products Reporting Program." Ronald E. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
