When the client comes and presents their insurance information at their first visit I give them their estimated share of cost. I then the make a payment arrangement with them so that their estimated share of cost is paid by 37 weeks. Not beyond this point. I make sure, when giving them their ESOC that if they span a pregnancy over January, that they realize that they are spanning two deductibles and that is added into their share of cost. I think, since I do my own billing, this has been an advantage. I now know which insurances pay what and can estimate this in the pt cost. If a check is bounced prior to the 37 weeks they would have to make this check good prior their delivery, period. Also, I try and make of habit of calling their insurance at around 37 weeks to make sure, particularly with private plans, that their coverage is current. Sue Turner, LM Ventura Birth Center

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
