Birth defect legal question

Okay, listers and groupies, here's a good question:

If a mother has a baby with a birth defect allegedly caused by prenatal exposure to a drug, and she sues, when does prescription (i.e. statute of limitations) begin to run? From the birth of the baby? From the time the mother found out about the defect (e.g. through ultrasound)?

The La. Supreme Court just came out with this one.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
