We use prophylactic ampicilline i.v. when we don´t know GBS results or time of ROM or , just knowing the exact time of ROM, the birth, due to the obstetrical conditions, is presumed to delay several hours. First pregnancy term, uncomplicated SVD or 8-15 ounces. This pregnancy, seen at 34 weeks, then 37.5 on a Thursday, and GBS culture done. Results not available when she presented. Saturday has PROM at noon without labor, received cytotec ripening at 8 PM for cervix of 1 cm/long/high {arrived L and D at 6 PM, called at 2 PM} followed by Pitocin 4 hours later when 2/80/-a lot. FHR normal, afebrile. At 6 AM, i.e. 18 hours ROM, PCN begun. FHR a bit tachcardic in 150s and a little in the 160s, recurrent lates with hyperstim. Pit off, oxygen on, cervix maybe 3 cm., still high, baby recovers. Pit restarted, and after 30 minutes, recurrent lates--C/S done, good baby and Apgars.
