Re: JCAHO strikes againFrom: ainsron (dean@thehuffpeople.net)Mon Dec 6 11:37:46 2004
.. The other problem I see with this JCAHO policy is the time it takes for medications to get to the unit. Unless a medication is already on the unit, pre-packaged, it can often take the pharmacy an hour or longer to get medications to the ward. I have frequently had cesarean sections where I wanted to use proplylactic antibiodics, wrote the order at the time the cesarean was ordered, told the nurse and the clerk, got the patient to the OR, got the baby out, and still had to use the antibiodic pre-packaged on the ward because the phaarmacy could not get it together to send a pre-packaged antibiodic from the pharmach to the ward in the time it took to schedule and do a cesarean! Also, would violation of what seems to be overreaching place the hospital in a precarious state? Why not alert the state and county medical societies as well as your acog district? art

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
